Oh dear - it seems to have been far too long since I found the time to write a blog. But this is our busiest time of year. The shop is now open seven days a week and deliveries seem to arrive every day. At least Sarah takes over the shop completely on a Sunday now, so I have at least one day off a week. We have also taken on two new members of staff - Tabitha and Bethany - to cover the Christmas period.
Our "Internet Price Promise" is once again proudly displayed on our front page. This proved very popular last year and is very important in countering the threat from Internet Only sellers, especially those on auction websites that can't even be bothered to build websites of their own. We try to compete not just on price but also pride ourself on our service, helping our customers choose the right toy and generally trying to go that extra mile when it comes to customer service. The Internet Only retailer offers nothing other than a low price and delivers zero service - how often we hear our customers tell us about the problems they have had with an Internet Only retailer and the difficulty of getting anything refunded.
On the other hand, we don't expect our customers, especially in these very difficult economic times to pay us more just because they like us. We aim to keep our prices low across the board and offer the price promise so that even when someone undercuts us, no one has to be torn between getting the best price and keeping the High Street shop alive.
Changing the subject, expect to see us taking on a new and well known range - probably in the New Year (but might be before Christmas). We were both surprised and pleased when they contacted us, especially as they already have an outlet in Winchester.
